Happy Thanksgiving!

With all the political unrest currently in our country, let’s all try not to politicalize Thanksgiving this year. Instead of pointing out some of the stories of the first American Thanksgivings might be more fiction than fact, let’s instead embrace the true spirit of the holiday—a time to give thanks for our harvests—be that literally or figuratively.

For me, I am grateful for another year. Grateful that I have a comfortable home, food on the table, family and friends who I treasure, wonderful furbabies, and a career I love, with readers who have been amazing.

And when Thanksgiving is over and we move into the Christmas season, perhaps we start thinking more of those who are not as fortunate as we are, and ask ourselves, what can we do about it?

National Novel Writing Month

Happy National Novel Writing Month (aka NaNoWriMo) to my fellow authors.

NaNoWriMo 2019 participants have five days left to complete their task—and I hope they all make it!

What is National Novel Writing Month? Each November participants in the event try to write a 50,000 word novel during the month of November. The writing challenge began twenty years ago, growing from 21 participants to over 400,000 writers who each year take the challenge.

Personally, I have never participated in the event. In the last five years I have published a book in November or December, which means by the time November rolls around, I am in the process of getting a book out, or already writing one.

But, I love the idea of the challenge, and I urge all aspiring authors—especially those who have a book they have been wanting to write yet keep finding excuses to not write, this might be the push you need—along with the support from fellow participants.

Writers or aspiring authors, consider marking NaNoWriMo on your 2020 calendar for next November.
