National Novel Writing Month

Happy National Novel Writing Month (aka NaNoWriMo) to my fellow authors.

NaNoWriMo 2019 participants have five days left to complete their task—and I hope they all make it!

What is National Novel Writing Month? Each November participants in the event try to write a 50,000 word novel during the month of November. The writing challenge began twenty years ago, growing from 21 participants to over 400,000 writers who each year take the challenge.

Personally, I have never participated in the event. In the last five years I have published a book in November or December, which means by the time November rolls around, I am in the process of getting a book out, or already writing one.

But, I love the idea of the challenge, and I urge all aspiring authors—especially those who have a book they have been wanting to write yet keep finding excuses to not write, this might be the push you need—along with the support from fellow participants.

Writers or aspiring authors, consider marking NaNoWriMo on your 2020 calendar for next November.

Thanksgiving Traditions

My birthday was just a couple days ago—and Thanksgiving is less than a week away. Some years my birthday falls on Thanksgiving.

We will be spending a quiet Thanksgiving at home—just hubby, my mother and the pups and cat. Our children are miles away and unable to come here—and we are unable to go there.

Looking back on my childhood, Thanksgiving was always a calm—somewhat sedate holiday. The years I recall, we typically spent Thanksgiving with my father’s mother and step-dad, and his stepfather’s sister—at my grandparent’s Covina apartment.

My grandparents often spent the summer months in Washington state, but would come down south and spend the winters in Southern California. My Grandma Madeline was an amazing cook, and the Thanksgiving meal was always prepared solely by her. I imagine she would have resented any offers to help.

The table was always set with her finest china, silver and crystal. And if memory serves me, my sister and I always showed up in what others would consider their Sunday best.

My sister, Lynn, and I were our paternal grandparents only grandchildren, so there were never any cousins to celebrate Thanksgiving with us—just five adults and two children.

It was a sober affair, but I remember the food was always amazing. My Grandma Madeline wasn’t a particularly demonstrative or affectionate grandmother, but she often used food to express her love.

What’s on your Thanksgiving menu this year?

About Haunting Danielle Audiobooks

In three days Tantor Media releases the audiobook of The Ghost and the Baby, Book 21 of the Haunting Danielle series. The next audiobook scheduled to be released is The Ghost and the Halloween Haunt, on Christmas Eve.

My audiobook listeners have been asking me when the most recent book of the series—Book 23, The Ghost and the Christmas Spirit will be available on audiobook. I wish I could give them a date, but I can’t. Let me explain why.

My publishing company, Robeth Publishing, handles the release of the eBook and paperback editions of the Haunting Danielle series. Therefore, I can easily answer any questions about those future releases.

Robeth Publishing does not handle the production of the audiobooks. Thus far, Tantor Media has purchased the audiobook rights to the first 22 books of the Haunting Danielle series. In the past, they have typically purchased the rights to three or four titles at a time—and there is no guarantee they will continue to purchase the rights to future books.

Of course, even if Tantor decides they are no longer interested in the series, it doesn’t mean the end of new Haunting Danielle audiobooks; it would simply mean a change in publisher. What this means for my listeners, at this point in time, I don’t know when The Ghost and the Christmas Spirit will be available in audiobook format. When I do know, I will post it on the blog and in our newsletter.
