New Haunting Danielle Releases

Wow. It’s June already. While technically summer, our current Oregon sky wants to stay winter, but our roses are ignoring its efforts and continue to bloom.

My last blog post was about my most recent book, The Ghost and the Poltergeist (Book 34 in the Haunting Danielle Series), which came out the end of April. Happy to report it is doing well, and staying at a 4.8 average rating over at Amazon, with over 600 rating/reviews.

I’ve heard from Tantor Media that they plan to release the audiobook version of The Ghost and the Poltergeiston October 15, 2024.

As for the release of Book 35, The Ghost Who Sought Redemption, look for its release (in eBook format and paperback and large print) on September 30, 2024.

Since the release of my last book, I took some time off work. One week in May we took a RV trip to camp along the Columbia River in Washington. It was the first time we’ve used our motorhome since moving to Oregon, September 2021. While the weather was a little rainy, we still enjoyed ourselves—the view was beautiful—and Lily and Danny (our miniature Aussies, not the characters from Haunting Danielle) did great on the trip. A little barking at first, but they finally settled in, and we didn’t get kicked out of the park.

This past week I flew down to California to attend my granddaughter’s 8th grade graduation. I stayed for about five days, and hubby stayed home with the pups. It’s a short flight from Portland Airport to Sacramento. I enjoyed spending time with my daughter’s family, and while I took my laptop with me (telling myself I would be doing some work) I only brought it out once to send out my Haunting Danielle Newsletter.

I arrived back home late yesterday afternoon, and our son and daughter-in-law brought over some take-out Chinese food so hubby and I wouldn’t have to cook dinner on my first night back. It was nice spending time with BOTH my kids, their spouses, and grandkids, all in the same day.

While the sun is playing peek-a-boo up here in Oregon, I still think this is a good start for summer. And in a couple weeks, hubby and I are celebrating our 48th wedding anniversary!

What are your summer plans?

Waiting for the editor…

All 29 books in the Haunting Danielle series are now available in audiobook. The Ghost and the Medium, Book 30, in the series is currently at the editor, and while I wait for its return I’m keeping busy marking chores off my to-do list.

One of the items I checked off my list today was getting a new profile picture for my book covers and social media. It’s probably one of my least favorite things to do. I’m super critical of my pictures. But at least it is done, and I don’t hate it.

Meanwhile, as I write this, I can hear activity on our property. The photo at the top of this post was just taken from my bedroom window, where I currently have my desk set up. They have started construction on our son and daughter-in-law’s house. It’s very exciting! Their house will be between the hedge and the white house in the background.

Meanwhile, as I wait for the editor to return my manuscript, I am hoping to check more items off my to-do list and then get some rose bushes planted. There is so much to do!

Paperbacks and Pre-Orders

I just had a reader ask me where they could preorder paperbacks. I am really sorry, but I only do preorders for eBooks, not paperback.

Why?

Well, maybe I should explain.

These days there are typically three types of authors. First, there are the traditional trade authors—meaning they publish through a trade publisher, and the publisher handles the formatting and release of all the books. Then there are the Indi authors (or self-published authors)—a phenomenon that took off around ten years ago. Oh, there were self-published authors before, but before that time they garnered little respect in the industry.  Then eBooks became a thing, and publishing changed.

There is a third type of author—the hybrid—which like the Indi is becoming more common these days. That’s the author that is both traditionally published and self-published.

I’m a hybrid author. While I self-publish my eBooks and paperbacks, I’ve sold the rights to my audiobooks. Tantor Media has thus far bought the rights to all 29 of the Haunting Danielle books, including The Ghost and the Church Lady, which comes out next week.  Dreamscape Media has purchased the rights to my Coulson Family Saga series and have released all five of those books in audiobook.

What this means, my audiobook publishers are responsible for the production, release, and distribution of my audiobooks. Heck, I don’t even know in advance when the books will be released. I check on Tantor’s website to see if it’s listed yet!

As for the production of my eBooks and paperbacks—that’s all on me. I’m responsible for hiring the editor, finding beta readers, and seeing that the books get properly formatted and uploaded on the sites.

Because of that, I simply haven’t the time or energy to make my paperbacks pre-orders. But, I do work very hard to make sure they are available around the same time as the eBooks.

The Ghost and the Church Lady eBook file has been loaded to all of the vendors. A copy of the book has been sent off to Tantor, so production of the audiobook can begin. And I am currently working on formatting the paperback. I offer two types—regular print and large print.

The next step, I am waiting for my illustrator to send me the finished cover files, and then I will get them uploaded along with the manuscript file, and other pertinent information.

I suppose it would be more impressive to say my people do all that formatting and uploading stuff. But the fact is, I have no people. It is just me.

Okay that is not entirely true. I have an amazing cover artist/illustrator, some incredible beta readers, and an editor.
